I am a storyteller.
I get this question a lot. Day In The Life Photography is an emerging style of photography that is quickly growing in popularity. There are a few variations in styles of Day In The Life style of photography. From the stricter genre of photojournalism to the modern style of lifestyle photography, I find myself somewhere in the middle. I aim to catch authentic moments in everyday life that tell a story of your life as it is today. I am not just a fly on the wall capturing newspaper type images, nor am I directing every minute of the photoshoot. We kick back, relax, and let life unfold together and I capture the story as it happens.
I am a storyteller.
A few days before Valentines Day I had this brilliant idea to photograph a pair of sweethearts and tell their story. Well, silly me, you need to give people more than a 2 day warning for such a thing! So I reached out to a fellow photographer and she and her boyfriend agreed to a Day In The Life photo shoot on short notice. Hooray!
So on this beautiful and mild February afternoon we started out our day together by taking the dog they were dog sitting for a walk to Walmart. The intent was to get powdered sugar for the cookies planning to be made later the afternoon. That was the beginning of the powdered sugar saga. Upon arrival at Walmart it was discovered that neither of them had brought their wallets with them! Oh well, what a gorgeous day for a walk anyway.
Time to get the grocery list together and head out for some shopping. We took probably the fastest trip to Costco I've ever had. Zip zip - done! Then to the beer store and back to Walmart for the pesky powdered sugar- among other things. In the baking isle they had a good chuckle about the powdered sugar as they felt that they had some at home - but just no idea where! The final consensus was to get the bag anyway because a third trip to Walmart for powdered sugar may have pushed someone over the top!
Back at the apartment groceries were unpacked, snacks made, and the cookies were about to be made. And that's when it happened. The unthinkable. Upon opening the box of the cookie mix the bag of powdered sugar magically appeared! Hahaha!
The mood was light and fun after a good powdered sugar giggle and the cookie making adventure began. I thought the directions were complex - but then again I never do baking of any kind. But they referenced the box over and over, carefully performing each step along the way. It all came together beautifully and the cookies were taking shape - heart shape to be exact.
The evening was closing in and it was time for me to head out. I really had so much fun hanging out and capturing their Day In The Life!
