When my niece and nephew were in town we went to visit our dear friend Helen. I grew up next door to this wonderful woman. She is the kindest most genuine person you will ever meet. I have been blessed to have her in my life - my entire life.
Growing up I would spend countless hours at her house - playing dress up and dolls, swimming in the pool, but most fondly I remember our moments where we would bake together. We would spend the afternoon in the kitchen baking and cooking up a storm. Instead of being annoyed with a little person underfoot, she would grab a chair for me to stand on and let me stir and read the recipes. And of course I got to lick the cookie batter spoon when we were done.
Seeing the kids playing with Helen made my heart mushy with fond memories and yearning to hold on to them all. I went back to my folks and dug through the picture box (you know the one) and found some great moments captured in photographs. But none of us baking together. I wish I had one of those.
